Porth Enys will sleep up to nine persons. We do however suggest that the normal maximum is eight, with a maximum of seven adults. If your party exceeds these recommended numbers, we suggest you carefully review the configuration of the accommodation and the make-up of your party before booking. Large groups also increase the wear and tear on the property and cleaning costs. If a party is to exceed the recommended numbers, we reserve the right to add a surcharge of 10% of the hire charge and request an increased damage deposit of £100 to be returned within 14 days of the end of your holiday provided the property has been left in a satisfactory condition.

Firstly, some visitors prefer to bring their own linen. Secondly, Porth Enys is a large house and the number of visitors and the number/type of beds used varies considerably. It is therefore difficult to include a standard charge which fairly reflects the costs incurred in providing linen. Details of linen hire costs are here.
Bookings will not normally be accepted from groups of single persons under the age of 30 years, or from all male or all female parties consisting of three or more persons. The owners reserve the right to accept or refuse bookings at their absolute discretion.
Porth Enys has five bedrooms. At the front of the house there are two double-bedded rooms and one single bedroom. To the back of the house there is a twin-bedded room, and a smaller children's bedroom which has two bunk sized beds at floor level. The children's room has limited storage space in a small bedside chest between the two beds. Four bedrooms have a colour TV and, apart from the children's room, all have plenty of storage space. A cot and high chair are also available.
When a booking is being made more than 6 weeks before arrival, a non-returnable deposit is required on booking, amounting to 25% of the total hire charge, including any linen hire costs. The balance of the cost of hire, plus damage deposit, is due not later than 21 days before the date of arrival. Where a booking is being made within 6 weeks of your arrival date, the full amount of the hire charge, plus damage deposit, is due on booking. Cheques should be made payable to "Porth Enys" and posted to the address on the booking form. Our bank details can be supplied if you wish to make payment via internet or telephone banking. All charges are quoted and are payable in GB pounds. Credit cards cannot be accepted. Please note that we recommend that all visitors take out holiday insurance to cover the costs of cancellation in that eventuality.
Porth Enys is less than 100 metres from the long distance bus station in St. Ives, and is about 500 metres from the railway station. Mainline trains normally connect with St. Ives branch trains at St. Erth. If there is no train connection, taxis are available, and there is a bus service from Penzance but you should check timings with the bus company.
Porth Enys is within walking distance of all St. Ives' beaches. The closest is Porthminster beach which is below the railway station - approximately 500 yards away. Next closest in the opposite direction is the harbour beach which is a little over half a mile away. Porthmeor beach is only a little further, with Porthgwidden being the furthest of the main beaches at a little over 10 minutes walk. Please note that Porthmeor and Porthminster beaches are normally patrolled by lifeguards between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. during the main season.
Unfortunately, Porth Enys is not suitable for anyone who will have difficulty using the steps at the rear of the property which give access to the garden and car park. These steps can be seen on the front page of the website. An easier route from the car park is to use the public footpath/steps down to The Terrace and enter via the front door. Internally, all bedrooms are on the first floor. The stairs are, however, not particularly steep and there is a "half-landing" to break the climb and from which level the rear bedrooms are accessed.
Porth Enys is located on a raised terrace above the main road to St. Ives just before it enters the town centre proper. The town centre (Downalong) is almost flat, but there is a short hill down from Porth Enys to reach that level. Properties further away from the town centre are mostly at a higher level(Uplong), and can involve quite an uphill trek.
Pets, however well behaved, are not allowed at Porth Enys. The reasons for this are partly to do with past experience of specific problems caused by pets, and partly to the additional cleaning which they cause. Porth Enys is larger than most holiday property in St. Ives and it does take some time to clean. The additional cleaning would increase costs, but more importantly, it would delay matters on changeover days.
Porth Enys normally books from Saturday to Saturday. Occasionally, Porth Enys may be available for short breaks but only to previous visitors, only out of peak season, and at our sole discretion and subject to a minimum charge of £275 due to the cleaning costs of such a large house. Small Party discounts do not apply to short breaks.
No. Porth Enys is our own property and we do not let any others. We do, however, know the owners/agents for other properties in St. Ives and we can pass you their contact details to see if they have suitable accommodation/vacancies. Porth Enys normally books from Saturday to Saturday. Occasionally, such as over the Christmas/New Year period, changeover days may be different and are based on the likely preference of visitors and our need to let full weeks wherever possible because there is a limit to the number of weeks which may be let. Please tell us if the changeover day indicated at such times is not suitable, and we will consider alternative suggestions. During the main peak season, we will stick rigidly to Saturday changeovers and bookings of full weeks. Out of peak periods, the aim is to let full weeks but "odd" periods will be considered particularly where they exceed the normal one or two weeks. Depending on our other bookings and how long before your holiday you are making the enquiry, other changeover days may be considered.
No, all such charges are included in the basic tariff.
Yes. We have reluctantly decided that all bookings made on or after 1st January 2003 will be subject to payment of a damage deposit of £60(in certain circumstances £100). This will be payable along with the balance of your hire charges 21 days before arrival, and it will be returned less any deductions within 14 days of departure. Loss or damage is chargeable under the booking conditions as are any additional cleaning costs or other losses incurred as a result of the property being left in an unreasonable condition. Can I book Porth Enys for next year?
Bookings for your next years' holiday may be made at any time. Porth Enys is booking up earlier each year, particularly due to increasing use of the internet. Regular visitors are given preference, but they should inform us as soon as they feel able to confirm their intentions. We will not normally accept bookings over 12 months ahead, particularly if the dates conflict with those of a known regular visitor. On receipt of such an enquiry and at our sole discretion, we may try to contact our regular visitor in order to establish their requirements before accepting a booking. Otherwise, we will take your contact details and confirm availability to you once our regular client has confirmed their wishes to us. If you are a regular visitor and wish to visit Porth Enys again next year, the safest course is to let us know during, or at the end of, this years holiday.
Do you provide any holiday insurance?
No. We recommend that visitors take out their own insurance against the costs of cancellation. This is usually the cheapest option in any case since the cover can be tailored to your specific requirements. Please see our booking conditions regarding cancellation.
How and when will you contact me?
We normally deal with all email enquiries well within 24 hours. If, exceptionally, you have not received a reply within 48 hours please telephone using these contact numbers. We will normally respond to any enquiry using the same media by which you contact us. If this is not suitable, please make this clear in your message. If we have an email address for you, we will normally confirm receipt of a letter, booking form, or cheque on the day of receipt. Hard copy receipts, booking confirmations, and other information will normally be posted out on the Monday of the week following receipt. Please allow 14 days from the date you expect us to have received your communication before contacting us by phone. If you do not receive a response within the above timescales, please contact us by phone in case the communication has gone astray. If a response is likely to be delayed, due to our own holidays for example, we will normally let you know by email of the likely delay. Our aim is to keep you informed of the progress of your booking and we have been congratulated for the approach we adopt.

What does "orange" availability mean?
Our policy on giving existing regular visitors preference means that certain weeks are shown as available in "orange" on the tariff page. This means that a regular visitor has booked the equivalent week, but has yet to confirm their interest in, or their ability to book, the week shown. If you are interested in booking the week, please let us know and we will ask our regular client to confirm their intentions as soon as possible, after which a booking will be accepted or declined.
A regular visitor is one who has booked with us on at least two previous occasions, or who has booked the same equivalent weeks for at least two consecutive years.
Do you produce a brochure?
No. We can provide much more information, photographs, etc., on this website than could ever be incorporated in a publicity brochure. We can provide a text-based leaflet, and printed tariff sheet, if required, but there are no photographs, and only basic details of the house.
Website availability is normally amended as soon as possible after a reservation or firm booking is accepted or confirmed respectively. Due to other business commitments, it is possible that the website may not be altered for up to 12 hours following a change, although this would be exceptional. We do regard keeping website availability accurate and up to date as important. Please also bear in mind the notes on "orange" availability, and reservations.
Pillows, blankets, duvets, and some purely decorative duvet covers are provided. Sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers are not, although these may be hired from Star Linen Hire. If you choose to bring your own linen, this should include bottom sheets, top sheets or duvet covers, pillowcases, and towels.
Regrettably, we do not allow smoking within the confines of the cottage due partly to the risk of damage to furniture and furnishings and partly due to the fire risk to the property and visitors themselves.
